Hi guys was wondering if you could give me some advice.

I have read the guides on tuning the 306 TDI have a Lucas pump and I have taken the plastic cap off I have turned the engine until I can see this

Is this the screw I need to adjust and does anyone now what size allen key fits, it says on the guide 5mm but it looks way to small to be 5mm

I have zoomed in on that pic and it doesnt look like a allen key bolt to me, im confused, iv got to go out at 16:45 so I think I will have to put the cap back on and leave it ?

If you put the car in gear and rock it to move the inner cylinder, the screw will come into view eventually - you may be 180 degrees out there. (and if you release the f00kin handbrake it's even easier . . . . . . . ) ::)

Mate, that is 100% the screw your supposed to be turning.

It's 4mm allen key, use a small shaft one and stick the long end into the screw, then use pliers to grip the bent bit and turn, it's pretty tight!!.

And dont get confused, It's definately a 4mm and thats definately the screw!!.

Good luck mate!

LOL yep, I'd marry it if i could, :p HaHa!

Yeah me and my brother fitted it, wasnt difficult, just ran into some complications as you normally do. Just cant believe how much better the car runs with it. Think my Lucas was on its last legs TBH.

Lucas is fine if you just wanna keep it standard, maybe tweak the fuel a little, but if your serious about some power, It'll have to be the Bosch, all the stupid power DTurbo's run Bosch's, like Pete's!.

Am i likely to mess up the screw or summat, i just remember someone selling metal replacements for some part of the pump - on ebay.. ?
All because what is fitted as standard, tends to break or round off?

Ahh yeah! Its the black plastic plug you have to unscrew, Its a real bitch, you have to angle a screwdriver on the side of the plug, pointing down and gently tap it round. Once its out mate, just use a rag your fingers to tighten it back up, as thats plenty tight enough!

Thanks!

When the pump empties itself of fuel, is there so much that it gets everywhere very quickly, or can i just have a rag ready around the plug to soak it up??

Just stick a bag over the alternator. Its about a cup full of DERV, pours out in a sort of "glug glug" fashion.

Just stick the bag on the alternator and let it run out under the car. It'll be fine.

As for getting the hole lined up with the allen screw. I found it easier to jack the drivers wheel off the ground, stick it in 5th gear, and just rotate the drivers wheel round until it lines up, easier to get it perfectly in line that way.
