Peugeot 306 Light Bulbs

Headlights

H4 Headlight Bulb Depending on the trim level the Peugeot 306 was fitted with one of two types of headlights as standard.

Single Bulb Headlights

Most Peugeot 306 models were fitted with a single optic headlight, offering dipped and main beam from a single bulb. The combined bulb headlight uses a 12 volt H4 type halogen headlight rated at 55/50w (55 watts main beam and 50 watts dipped beam). The combined beam nature of this type of headlight sometimes offers a poor beam pattern on the road, which can be partly improved by using specially designed headlight upgrade bulbs, often rated at 60/55w for a H4 fitting.

Twin Bulb Headlights

H7 Headlight BulbHigher spec Peugeot 306 models often benefit from a better designed headlight with two bulbs, a seperate one for dipped and main beam. These headlights use 12 volt halogen H7 bulbs rated at 55 watts. Twin bulb headlights offer much better beam patterns on the road and as the dipped and main beams are seperate, the dipped bulb remains on while the main beam is on which means you are getting twice as much light on the road compared to a single bulb headlight. Twin bulb headlights are most commonly found on phase 1 and 2 XSi, s16 and GTi models and also on most phase 3 models.

Front Fog Lights

H1 Fog Light BulbThere are as many as 5 different styles of Peugeot 306 fog lights, but luckily all of them use a single H1 type halogen bulb rated at 55 watts. Light output from fog lamps can vary due to the type of housing and lens used, with the brightest by far being the crystal clear fog lights fitted to phase 3 models after 1999.

Side Lights

Peugeot 306 side lights are located within the main headlight assembly. The bulb used is a wedge type bulb rated at 5 watts. Some Peugeot 306 models are also fitted with a dim-dip relay, which sends a reduced voltage to the main dip beam bulbs whenever the side lights are on. The dim-dip realy is located in the engine bay fuse box.

Indicators

On the Peugeot 306 the indicators can vary slightly between models, but are most commonly a single filament bulb rated at 21 watts. The rear indicators are almost always a clear bulb but the front indicators could be either a clear bulb or an orange coloured bulb.

It should be noted that when looking at the base of the bulb, the clear bulbs will have two locating pins at the same height on the bulb and they are opposite each other. The orange bulbs however have two located pins at the same height, but they are offset slightly at a 12 o'clock and 5 o'clock position.

The indicator side repeater bulbs are the same type as the side light bulbs, a wedge type bulb rated at 5 watts.

Rear Lights

Tail lights are either 5 or 10 watts single filament bulb. Rear fog lamps and reversing lamps are standard 21 watts single filament bulbs and the combined stop-tail bulb is a twin filament bulb rated at 21/5 watts (21 watts stop and 5 watts tail)
